Tips for Designing the Perfect Kid Bedroom
What would the ideal kid bedroom’ actually appear like? If you had asked me that question when I was six, I would have firmly said the bright shades and bedding with a Lisa Frank theme. If you had asked me that similar question at the age of twelve, I would have switched all the cartoons with images of me and quotes from my buddies and applied them onto every surface. At 18, I didn’t have a clue about my bedroom as it was my home away from home in the dorm in college. As I go through the bedroom transition as a mother, I realize that my dislike of neon poster posters, duct tape, and anime is due to my age.
What is it that goes into making the perfect bedroom for your kids? From the color of the walls to the selection of furniture, Here are some suggestions for designing the ideal kid’s bedroom.
Get Their Input
If you’re planning to create a cozy, inviting, and enjoyable environment for your kid(s), be sure they are part of the design process. Although I’m not in favor of having your child as the primary decision-maker, a distinct type of responsibility is created when they can consider the kid’s bedroom ideas, choices, and purchasing.
Based on the age of your child depending on their age, they may have similar preferences concerning themes, desks, or even colors. If your kids are in the same room and you want to include ideas that blend their views, create areas of the room that are truly unique and personal.
Incorporate Their Favorites (in Flexible Ways)
If you look back to your younger years, you most likely have a favorite persona from a film or TV show, song or. It could be that this character changed each year (or week, or month), …). However, it was something you were passionate about. The same applies to your child!
An easy and flexible way of incorporating your child’s favorite character(s) can be to purchase wall decals that are removable and can be removed when your child is no longer in that particular phase. You can buy cheap themes for sheets and pillows or even an item like a chalkboard to sketch designs that can be easily erased.
Rely on Neutrals to Allow for Change
It’s about deciding what to make for breakfast or choosing their favorite paint color. The kids are known to be a bit hesitant, and that’s fine. Things we enjoyed as children will indeed have changed, and many times. Recognizing and accepting this change in our children is the first step.
When it comes to color, you should try to choose neutral colors to the maximum extent feasible. This will make the transition simpler (without removing the enjoyment).
For example, instead of painting all four walls in the bedroom of your daughter bright blue, make the accent wall. The wall you choose to create will be much easier to alter and will not require more energy, cash, or time than painting the entire room once again if she decides blue isn’t her preferred color.
Ensure the Space Is Conducive to Rest
Many parents overlook the fact that bedrooms are designed to be a place for relaxation. Simple things can make a huge impact. For instance, it’s best to choose curtains that are floor-to-ceiling and entirely black to block from the sun completely. This can help in sleeping routines (especially for young children). Also, most curtains are made of vibrant colors so that your child is in a position to express their personality.
Create Different Areas for Different Activities
At first, it may appear to be geared toward younger children. However, it’s applicable to all age groups. Having different pockets in the room for other activities can assist with independence, self-directed work, play, and accountability.
A good example is creating a homework area or workspace that can aid older children to be more focused and responsible with their work or assignments. For younger children, using a Legos station could help create more consistent routines for bedtime or naptime since toys aren’t part of the sleeping area.
When planning the perfect kids’ bedroom, keep an eye on the fact that separation may make the room look and feel more prominent, creating more space for enjoyment.
Consider Your Child’s Personality & Behavior
In creating the ideal bedroom for your child, one of the main things you need to be aware of is your child’s temperament, personality, and behavior. Also, if your child can easily be overwhelmed by their surroundings, It is best to use shades and colors that are calm. So that the space is safe and comfortable, it is possible to incorporate sensory objects like blankets with calming colors and other things that bring joy and peace.
However, If you have a more active or even rambunctious kid, You might want to think about a full-size bed with various levels and layers, that even incorporate the movement of slides or a ladder. It can be a possibility for self-control and play instead of an ordinary bed that can limit your child’s vitality and energy.
